Lynn's Baked Beans by Lynn Lowery

Cousin Lynn's

Baked Bean Casserole

Lynn says she has been doctoring a good product to make it better for a long time, perhaps 20 years. That makes her a leader in the semi-homemade movement. She says that most of the time she has the ingredients already on the shelf so the preparation is quick and straightforward simple. It is a popular and oft requested dish at family get-togethers and suppers. She also says that adding spice to the dish is really a raid on the spice cabinet. Good as a hot dish for a sit-down dinner, or served cold for a picnic side dish.

Preparation: 45 minutes New Family Recipe
Serves 4 to 6 persons Lynn Lowery
Ingredients:
  • 2 cans Bush's Original baked beans
  • 1/2 pound bacon, fried crisp, crumbled
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Procedure
  1. Fry the bacon crisp and set aside to cool. When cooled, crumble and add to an oven-proof casserole dish.
  2. Open cans of beans and drain just enough to drain the packing liquid but still leave the beans coated and moist. Add the beans to the casserole dish.
  3. Add brown sugar, salt, pepper and spices. Stir to combine. Cover and bake in a preheated 350° oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until heated through and the flavors combined.
