Danish Meatballs

Serves 4 main dishes or 6 side dishes Inge Miller
  • 1 1/2 pounds lean beef
  • 1/2 pound pork
  • 1 onion
  • 1 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  1. Process the meat and onion through the meat grinder at least four times. Add flour and seasonings and mix well.
  2. Mix bread crumbs and milk together and let stand for a few minutes.
  3. Add bread crumb mixture to meat mixture and stir well with a wooden spoon.
  4. Form into meatballs. Use a small bowl with melted butter, dip the spoons in the melted butter and then place a small amount of meat on the spoons to form oblong frikadeller meatballs. Fry in butter or margarine in a heavy pan.
